Occupational Therapy
What is Occupational therapy?
Our specialist Occupational Therapists focuses on helping children engage in everyday activities—often referred to as “occupations”—that are meaningful to them. This can include play, self-care, school tasks, and social interactions. At Greenhouse Paediatrics, our Occupational Therapists are dedicated to supporting children from infancy to 18 years of age, using our specialist knowledge and expertise. Our team has extensive experience in supporting neurodiverse children, including those with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and other developmental differences.
Where children are linked in with our Paediatricians, we ensure seamless assessment and intervention across Allied Health and Medicine, ensuring families have seamless support across services.
Our services
Our Occupational Therapy team is committed to empowering children and families through:
Sensory Processing Support
Many children, particularly those who are neurodiverse, experience challenges with sensory processing. Our therapists assess how children respond to sensory input from their environment and provide tailored strategies to help them navigate sensory experiences more comfortably. We focus on creating sensory-friendly environments that promote engagement and exploration.
Fine Motor Skills Development
Fine motor skills are essential for tasks such as writing, using scissors, and buttoning clothing. Our OT assessments identify areas of need, and we design fun, engaging activities that promote the development of these skills in a supportive, encouraging manner.
Self-Care Skills
Learning to manage daily self-care tasks—like dressing, toileting, grooming, and hygiene—is crucial for a child’s independence. Our Occupational Therapists work with children to build these skills through individualised strategies that respect their unique learning styles and strengths, fostering confidence and autonomy.
School Readiness and Academic Support
We provide assessments and interventions aimed at enhancing a child’s ability to participate in school activities, such as writing, following instructions, and engaging in group work. Our neuroaffirming approaches ensure that we recognize and celebrate diverse learning styles, helping every child feel successful in the classroom.
Social Skills and Peer Interaction
Social skills are vital for forming friendships and engaging in group activities. Our team emphasises the development of social communication skills through structured play and group interventions, ensuring that children learn to connect with others in meaningful ways. We promote an inclusive environment where all children can thrive socially.
Behavioural Support
Understanding and managing behaviour is key for many children, especially those with neurodiverse profiles. Our Occupational Therapists collaborate with families to develop positive behaviour strategies that are tailored to each child’s needs, promoting self-regulation and emotional well-being.
